Library Position Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Board of Trustees, the Library Director performs responsible and varied administrative and professional work related to planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of library services for Berwick, Pennsylvania and surrounding communities.
This is highly responsible administrative work involving the direction of a broad range of public library functions.
Work involves responsibility for the management of a public library collection and for the provision of library services to patrons and community organizations.
The work requires that the employee have thorough knowledge, skill and ability in every phase of the public library field.
McBride Memorial Library is a privately-owned 501c3 non-profit public library with a service area of 14,000 - 22,500 and an operating budget of approx.
$450,000.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Supervises the library staff, directly or through appropriate delegation Administers personnel policies and procedures for library employees, including training, development, scheduling, and evaluation, either directly or through appropriate delegation Participates in the recruitment and selection of library personnel Responsible for developing print and non-print collections, including selection, organization, maintenance, preservation, withdrawal, and disposal of materials, either directly or through appropriate delegation Prepares and presents library budget proposal for approval, and monitors and approves expenditures from the official operating budget Confers with the Library Board of Trustees to establish operating policies and to review the library's services and programs offered Develops short-term and long-range goals and plans for collections, services, and programs in keeping with the library's mission statement and operating policies; studies and plans development of library services to meet present and future community needs Participates in the planning, organization, and management of technical services for the library Provides IT and network infrastructure troubleshooting; ability to troubleshoot computer, print, camera, and phone problems Directs a public relations program to promote and publicize the library's collections, services, and programs within the community Maintains knowledge of new developments in the library profession, including technological advances, through professional development opportunities, including but not limited to participation in activities of professional organizations and networks and of the Pennsylvania State Library and North Central Library District Interacts with the appropriate local vendors for the maintenance of the library's building, furnishings, and equipment Provides general facilities maintenance as-needed including but not limited to changing lightbulbs and ballasts, helping dig ground for drainage, power-washing sidewalks, and assembling and installing fixtures and furnishings.
On-call availability outside library hours for situations such as emergencies, meeting with vendors, technical troubleshooting, and helping trustees as needed.
Evening and weekend availability for committee meetings, book sales and other fundraising and outreach events, municipality meetings, service club meetings, etc.
Computer proficiency, competency in Microsoft Office, ILS, QuickBooks, and WordPress-based web design, Divi, Elementor, etc.

Advises, consults, and confers with other libraries, professionals, officials, citizens, municipalities, and community groups Public speaking, outreach, joining local service organization and helping out at community events Reviews and evaluates the library's services and programs on an annual basis Prepares grant requests and grant reports to state and federal agencies and non-profit foundations, and administers grant funds upon award Prepares state reports and adheres to state library standards, so that reporting reflects library's good standing Maintains inventory of department equipment, furniture, and supplies Prepares specifications for purchase of equipment and supplies Attends conferences, workshops, and meetings and reads professional literature to stay informed on issues related to library management and services Serves on professional and community committees, as requested, to advance the library and the library profession Performs other duties, as required Supervision Received:

Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution required plus 7 years of increasingly responsible experience as a librarian in a public library, including 5 years of supervisory experience.
Public Library Certification as a professional librarian from the Pennsylvania Department of Education FBI and PA Criminal Background Checks and PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Close to the Pocono Mountains, it provides easy access to metropolitan cities such as New York and Philadelphia.
Berwick is just minutes away from Geisinger, a major trauma 1 medical center and is close to many colleges and universities.
The town has several community parks, encouraging the residents to go boating, fishing and hunting.
Only 30 minutes away, there is a large, free admission amusement park.
The McBride Memorial Library is a medium sized library with a strong endowment and a patron base of over 9000.
The children's library offers many programs.
The library has a computer lab and a genealogy room, as well as a large community room for the hosting of meetings.
In addition, there is a beautiful enclosed memorial garden.
The proposed starting salary for the position is $50,000.
Candidates must have excellent management and communication skills, as well as the ability to schedule and supervise staff.
